Wildeberg

Made_by_Boutinot_black_edited.png

Great whites leap from the vines of the old Coastal Region, though reds of equal surprise are rarer. We've been tinkering with a possible Wildeberg Franschhoek Red for two years now. In November of 2019 the right wine spoke when we turned a proposed blend on it's head which emitted from the team a few quiet sighs of delight. This blend is 90% Syrah and 10% Cabernet Franc, it is by no means obvious on paper but makes so much sense in the glass.

Food Match

Great with a nice charcuterie board, a juicy steak or traditional South African Bobotie.

Tasting Notes

Our first release of a Wildeberg Red exemplifies the magic of Franschhoek. This being the first release of this Syrah/Cabernet Franc blend aged in new and older oak, the palate has a very impactful attack on the mouth.

Production

Wildeberg is our small farm in Franschhoek. Only 10ha can be planted to vines, the rest is wild. The fruit for the Wildeberg wines come from the Franschhoek Valley only, hand-harvested, naturally fermented and gently matured in our mountain barrel hall on the farm.
