Tiger Horse Shiraz Mourvèdre, 2018
Our hugely successful southern Rhône style red from Swartland goes from strength to strength!
SKU: USAB288SAV1 Category: Red
How it's made
Grapes for this Tiger Horse blend have been sourced from traditional growers in the Swartland area of the Cape with whom we have long standing relationships. In Swartland, the vineyards of the Riebeeck Valley stretch along the lower contours of the Kasteelberg. The soil is mainly Malmsbury scale with loamy soil on the higher grounds and sandy loam lower down the slopes, interspersed with rich Hutton soils. The climate is perfect for viticulture with the low rainfall summer months, tempered by cool afternoon breezes and the cold winters allowing the vines to rest and to build up the reserves. During fermentation the skin cap is punched down multiple times a day in order to maximize extraction. The result is a rich and dark wine, packed with fruit and chocolaty notes and a big savory heart.
Food Match
A great partner to rich and savory red meat dishes such as salt-marsh lamb, or a gutsy bean casserole.
Tasting Notes
A bright, sandy nose that can only be Swartland in origin which suggests summer pudding, cloves and crushed raspberries. There is a rich attack of fresh, very red fruit on the palate which is at once vibrant and dark. A sensational blend from the Rhone home in South Africa.
